Renowned Nollywood actor and filmmaker Ayodeji Richard Makun, popularly known as AY Comedian, has addressed the controversy surrounding AI-generated images and videos falsely depicting him in an intimate moment with May Edochie, the estranged wife of actor Yul Edochie.
The fabricated images and videos, which surfaced online, were created using advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology and falsely showed the two sharing a kiss during a flight to the United Kingdom. The trip was for the premiere of AY’s latest film, The Waiter. Both AY and May had shared genuine photos of their journey to the UK, dressed in promotional attire for the event, but the AI-generated content sparked widespread speculation and misinformation.
AY Condemns Fake Content, Urges Positive Creativity
In response, AY strongly condemned the creators of the misleading images, urging them to channel their digital skills toward productive and nation-building initiatives rather than spreading falsehoods. He also highlighted the dangers of cyberbullying and misinformation, referencing the recent online harassment faced by reality TV star Alex Unusual, who was falsely linked to him in romantic rumors.
AY emphasized the need for empathy, constructive social media use, and a culture of support, rather than the spread of negativity and baseless accusations.
AY’s Message to Online Innovators
In an extensive social media post, AY called on young creatives to use their talents for positive change:
“Dear Online Innovators, as Nigeria’s future leaders and change-makers, I urge you to channel your immense creative talents toward building a better nation rather than tearing each other down. Nigeria is rich with potential, and your unique skills be it in art, music, technology, or entrepreneurship—can drive positive change.”
He further stated that sabotaging others only fuels division and called for a united effort to support and celebrate hard work, rather than discouraging those striving for success.
“Let’s come together to support one another’s hustles, celebrate our achievements, and inspire a culture of innovation and respect. The future of Nigeria depends on our collective efforts to foster an environment where everyone can thrive.”
AY concluded by encouraging digital creatives to use their talents for positive impact, referencing Air Peace’s sponsorship of The Waiter Movie as an example of meaningful collaboration.
“Your talents can be a force for good. Let’s use them to build bridges, not walls. Together, we can create a brighter future for our beloved country.”
