ASUU Slams FG for Failing to Honor Agreements, Hints at Possible Strike

ASUU

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has expressed deep frustration over the federal government’s failure to uphold any of the agreements reached in previous negotiations. ASUU President, Emmanuel Osodeke, criticized the government for its inaction, despite repeated warnings and renegotiation efforts by the union.

According to reports, ASUU and the government had earlier reached a tentative agreement following discussions on resolving issues affecting university lecturers. However, Osodeke revealed that aside from forming a negotiation team, no concrete steps have been taken to address the union’s demands.

“It has been about two months now, and the government’s team has not come back to us, let alone sign a new deal,” Osodeke said.

“The implication of this is that the political class does not care about any development in public universities.”

The ASUU president further lamented that, more than a year into its tenure, the government has failed to resolve any of the union’s longstanding demands.

“No single issue has been permanently resolved by this government since assumption,” he stated.

“We are still telling the same old story, while the rich send their children abroad for education.

When they return, they take up lucrative positions in public offices, leaving the children of the poor to suffer.”
