Tunde Babalola, Asake’s former manager, has spoken out against the Nigerian singer, accusing him of greed and laziness. The London-based promoter, known as Tunde Phoenix, claimed that Asake passed up numerous lucrative performance opportunities in 2024, allegedly due to his unwillingness to share the earnings with his team.
In a detailed Instagram story, Phoenix shared specifics of some of the offers Asake declined, describing them as highly profitable but ultimately rejected by the artist. He wrote: “Oh, a show which I will not mention because it’s not publicly announced. But as soon as it’s public, I will reference it. A national show with global stars, which I won’t mention out of respect for the other parties involved.”
Phoenix detailed two separate offers: the first being a six-figure deal for three shows with the option to name his production costs; the second, an offer for nearly $1 million per show, made because the organizers were eager to have Asake perform.
He continued, “Embarrassing as it turns out, he declined. They were so disappointed, and their words to us—I can’t say it. These are powerful people in touring. Steve, the truth will set you free.”
Further revealing other missed opportunities, Phoenix wrote: “Africa Tour Offers: 4 shows = $3 million + Private Jet + Production + Logistics for the band + Accommodation for all (top-notch, of course). But because of GREED and not wanting to break anyone off, you said ‘cancel the tour’.”
He added, “Asake 2-set offer 24/25. Dates: (To be mutually agreed) November 1st or 2nd, 2024 (1) and February 2025 (2). Venue: Sky 2.0 – Dubai (1,000 – 1,500 capacity). Set length: 20 minutes. Fee: $400,000 + accommodation, flights, transfers, and ground transport.”
Phoenix also accused Asake of turning down an offer for a show in Dubai, calling his behavior “evil” and describing the rejection as “pathetic,” particularly for an artist aiming for mega stardom.
He further mentioned a series of offers Asake declined, including a deal with Flytime Fest, a Lagos Countdown, and several end-of-year events with major companies like Oando and Tony Elumelu, all adding up to a total of at least $4 million.
Phoenix criticized Asake’s claim of being too tired after completing only 11 shows in 2024, calling it disappointing for an artist in his position.
