Alia’s Peace Claims Spark Outrage from Benue Communities

Gov Hyacinth Alia

Governor Hyacinth Alia’s assertion of restored normalcy in Benue communities affected by herdsmen attacks has met sharp criticism from local leaders. The Turan Development Association Worldwide, represented by President Terkura Iorkyaa and Secretary Emmanuel Ijever, refuted the governor’s claim, citing continued violence and displacement in Turan, Kwande LGA. They reported over 50 deaths since December 2024 and called for urgent security measures.

Similarly, the Forum of Tyoshin Academics (FoTA) disputed Alia’s statements regarding peace in Gwer-West and Makurdi LGAs. FoTA leaders, Professors Patrick Ukase and John Ajai, condemned the governor’s assessment, highlighting persistent attacks on their people and urging state and federal intervention.

Both groups emphasized that the situation remains dire, and immediate action is needed to protect vulnerable communities and facilitate their safe return home.
