Alex Iwobi Reveals Longstanding Passion for Music Alongside Football Career

Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has disclosed that his journey into music began simultaneously with his football career at the age of 14. During an interview with “TheCable” in Uyo, Akwa Ibom, on Wednesday, the Fulham star shared insights into his musical background, which he only recently revealed to the public.

In March 2024, the 28-year-old footballer surprised his millions of social media followers by showcasing his rapping talent. Posting under the alias “17,” Iwobi shared a brief clip of his unreleased music, where he skillfully delivered lyrics over a UK Drill beat, all while including a montage of his on-field performances.

Three months later, in June 2024, Iwobi released his debut track titled Don’t Shoot, marking the official public launch of his musical career.

Reflecting on his dual passion for music and football, Iwobi noted that he had been pursuing both since his teenage years. He expressed that while his musical talents may come as a surprise to many, it has always been a significant part of his life.

Iwobi also revealed that he has a collection of unreleased songs and that his team will decide the right time for their release.

“The area I grew up in in London is either you play football or become an artiste. I was doing a bit of both,” Iwobi said.

“It is only recently that I started showcasing that I like music, but I have been doing music since the age of 14. It is a surprise to the world because I am just publishing it, but I have been doing it for a very long time.

“Anytime my major team that handles my music and I think it is the best time to put out music, then we will put it out. They know best. Whenever they think its right. But until then, I have so many unreleased songs.”
