Akwa Ibom Police Smash Illegal Maternity Centre, Rescue Pregnant Women and Infants

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has raided an illegal maternity centre at Usung Atiat, Abak Local Government Area, which was involved in child trafficking, illegal medical practice, and impersonation.

In a Friday, March 21, 2025, statement released by the public relations officer of the command, DSP Timfon John, police agents acted on credible intelligence and stormed the center.

They arrested one suspect, Patience Ene Jimmy, while releasing seven pregnant women and five babies aged two weeks to one year.

The premises were raided and discovered with a number of medical supplies, including syringes, drip lines, herbs, and immunization documents—all that the suspect was not legally prevented from carrying.

The rescued women and children have been placed under protective custody and investigations continue to locate other accomplices and prosecute the perpetrators.

Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, reasserted the determination of the command to breaking up illegal operations that exploit vulnerable citizens.

He also urged citizens to be more vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
