Nigerian international Ademola Lookman has been ruled out of Atalanta’s Champions League fixture against Barcelona on Wednesday after sustaining a knee injury during training. In a statement released on their website, the Serie A club confirmed that the 27-year-old forward injured the lateral joint of his right knee on Tuesday morning. As a result, he will not travel with the squad to Spain, where Atalanta aims to secure direct qualification for the Champions League Round of 16.
While the club did not specify the duration of his absence, Italian media reports suggest Lookman could be sidelined for up to a month. His absence is a significant blow to Atalanta, as the winger has been instrumental this season, contributing 14 goals and six assists. Lookman also played a pivotal role in Atalanta’s Europa League success last season, scoring a hat-trick in the final against Bayer Leverkusen.
Atalanta, under Gian Piero Gasperini, continue to excel domestically and in Europe, maintaining their position in the Serie A title race while impressing in the Champions League.
