Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman has been named among the final five nominees for the 2024 CAF Men’s Player of the Year award.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) unveiled the shortlist on Thursday, December 12, ahead of the prestigious awards ceremony set to take place in Marrakech, Morocco, on Monday, December 16.
Lookman will compete for the honor against Simon Adingra, Serhou Guirassy, Achraf Hakimi, and Ronwen Williams.
He aims to follow in the footsteps of his international teammate Victor Osimhen, who won the award in 2023.
The 27-year-old Nigerian has had an exceptional year, showcasing his prowess at both club and international levels.
During the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire, Lookman netted three goals and provided an assist in seven matches for the Super Eagles.
At the club level, Lookman made history with a remarkable hat-trick in the UEFA Europa League final for Atalanta.
This season, he has continued his stellar form, amassing 11 goals and five assists in 18 appearances across all competitions for Gian Piero Gasperini’s side.
Lookman’s standout performances include earning the Man of the Match title in Atalanta’s UEFA Champions League clash against Real Madrid as he helps the team push for the Serie A title.
