Abia Lawmaker, Supporters Dump PDP for Labour Party

Dennis Chinwendu, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmaker representing Isiala Ngwa South Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, has officially defected to the Labour Party (LP) along with his supporters.

At a welcoming ceremony in Umuoba, Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area, Abia State Governor Alex Otti hailed the LP as an inclusive party committed to good governance. He assured Chinwendu and his supporters of full integration and equal treatment, emphasizing that the party does not discriminate between old and new members.

“Honourable Chinwendu, we are glad to have you join our party, and we thank you for bringing this multitude, including your leaders,” Otti said. “In the Labour Party, you will be given the same status as those who joined earlier.”

Speaking on his defection, Chinwendu credited his decision to Otti’s good governance and transformative leadership, which he said had significantly changed the state’s narrative in less than two years.

He assured the governor of continued support, noting that the people of Isiala Ngwa South were ready to reciprocate Otti’s efforts in 2027.

Other key figures present at the event included Senator Darlington Nwokocha, a former representative of Isiala Ngwa North/South Federal Constituency, and his successor, Ginger Onwusibe.

A major highlight of the event was the official presentation of the LP flag to Chinwendu and his supporters by Smart Ogbonna, the Labour Party chairman in the area.
