Cross River to Honour 52 Workers with Excellence Awards, Automatic Promotions

Sen Bassey Otu

Cross River State Government will honor 52 civil servants with awards of excellence for their hard work and commitment as one of the steps to enhance productivity, accountability, and transparency in the state’s workforce.

Head of Service, Dr. Innocent Eteng, disclosed this in Calabar on Monday while briefing newsmen on the upcoming Civil/Public Service Day celebration, with theme “Re-engineering the Cross River State Civil Service for Efficient Service Delivery.”

The awards will include certificates, medals, and even automatic promotion in certain cases to motivate employees to work to the best of their ability, Eteng explained.

“A good number of them will receive medals and automatic promotion. Employees who have worked assiduously will be suitably rewarded, with beneficiaries to be chosen in all three senatorial zones of the state. The exercise has no ethnic, tribal, or religious bent,” he stated.

Eteng added that the choice would be made solely on public service record and performance, and coverage would be extended to the local government councils.

He also revealed that Governor Bassey Otu had directed the immediate effectuation of pending staff promotions. “I have instructed the Permanent Secretary to draw up the list of persons whose promotion has been approved but not yet effected, and submit it to the Accountant General’s Office. That will be handled without delay,” he assured.
